Perhaps you just want to see what it was like in the "good old days"? You may find something of interest here! | THE ROLLING STOCK OBSERVER
![]() |
This is a reference work of the observations of passenger and non-passenger carrying coaches
from 1981 onwards. There are many observations at Chesterfield, my home town, as well as from all around the country. This will not appeal to the vast majority of enthusiasts, in fact it probably won't appeal to anybody! - apart from myself, but I'm a bit of an oddity, who is rather facinated by numbers! | MILTON KEYNES DRIFTER
![]() |
For the whole of 1987 I worked at London Euston parcels depot and lived in Milton Keyens,
travelling each day backwards and forwards - drifting! Class 81s, 85s, 86s and 87s were the main motive power at the time along with the class 310 EMUs. This is a detailed record of what I travelled on and what I saw, - it is a year in my life, a travelling diary if you like. A photo gallery is included. Click here for Milton Keynes Drifter |
| HOPE VALLEY HOBO | |
![]() |
From January to the end of March 1988 I worked at Stockport parcels office but lived in
Chesterfield commuting everyday by train from Sheffield and Dore through the Hope Valley. This is a record of what I travelled on - mostly 31/4s with the odd 47 thrown in for good measure. A photo gallery is included. Click here for Hope Valley Hobo |
| CROMPTON CAROUSEL | |

Class 33s were the main motive power on the Cardiff-Portsmouth corridor in the 1980s. From 1986 to 1988 I spent a week's holiday each year riding behind them mainly between Southampton and Warminster but taking the odd ride a little further afield behind 50s plus 73s on the Bournemouth-Waterloos. Starting from Weymouth each day this is the story of the great days of "Crompton" haulage in the late 1980s. A photo gallery is included. Click here for Crompton Carousel |
